A native of Montgomery, Miss Tennille attended Auburn University before moving to Southern California where she cowrote a rock musical with Ron Thronson entitled "Mother Earth". During the play's run she met her husband who was a keyboard player in the house band.

The two financed and produced a single, "The Way I Want To Touch You", which brought them to the attention of A&M Records. They were signed to the label and the song became a regional hit. They followed that with songs such as "Lonely Night (Angel Face)", "Muskrat Love", "Shop Around", "Can't Stop Dancin'", "You Never Done It Like That" and "Do That To Me One More Time".

In the 80s, Tennille released an album of standards from the 30s and 40s on Mirage/Atlantic entitled "More Than You Know".

The biggest surprise to people is that I sang background on Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’ album.
