Dr. Ted Galloway attended Holt High School graduating in 1955. He attended the University of Alabama where he earned his B.S. Degree in 1959; His M.A. Degree in 1963; and the Ed. D. Degree in 1985.
His first position as band director was at McAdory High School, McCalla, Alabama, in the Jefferson County School System. In 1962, Dr. Galloway moved to W. A. Berry High School, Birmingham, Alabama and served as the new school's first band director. He started the band program in 1970 at Vestavia Hills High School, Birmingham, Alabama, when the new school system was formed and directed the marching band, and jazz band until his retirement in 1990.
His marching, concert and jazz bands consistently received superior ratings at state, regional and national festivals, including receiving "Best in Class" at many festivals. His bands have performed at the Music Educators National Conference and the National Band Association Convention, as well as other National and regional events.
Dr. Galloway has served as President of the Alabama Bandmasters Association and two terms as President of the Alabama Chapter of IAJE. He is a member of the Rho Chapter of the national band honorary fraternity Phi Beta Mu. He was inducted into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame in 1988 and named "Outstanding Music Educator of the Year" in 1991 by the Alabama Music Educators Association. He has been a guest conductor, adjucator and clinician throughout the Southeast United States and Western Europe.
He organized the first Alabama Lions All-Star High School Marching Band in 1980 for the Lions International Convention. He is a past President of Vestavia Hills Lions Club. Dr. Galloway was inducted into the Phi Beta Mu Alabama Bandmasters Hall of Fame in 1991.
