Celebrity of the Month Cleveland Eaton
famed Jazz bassist for Count Basie & The Ramsey Lewis Trio.
This is the third year for the celebrity program. It is an exceptional educational program giving the students an opportunity to hear first hand about the achievements and awards, as well as hardships, the celebrities have experienced. During the 'meet & greet' portion of the program the students will have a chance for autographs and a picture with the famous personality.
Participants in the 1999-2000 program included: Bobby Denton (an early star from Muscle Shoals and now a State Senator from this area),
Will McFarlane (who has played guitar with Bonnie Raitt, the Pointer Sisters, etc.) , Gary Baker (songwriter of the number one Pop & Country Hit - "I Swear"), Marty Raybon (former lead singer with the group Shenandoah), Lenny LeBlanc (songwriter of the 1970's hit "Fallin'" and of the number one Sawyer Brown single "Treat Her Right"), Walt Aldridge (songwriter of a half dozen number one Country singles), and Travis Wammack (guitarist at FAME recording studios and with the Little Richard band for many years).

This field trip allows a student to 'focus' on a particular Alabama star as they explore the museum. Each student is given materials to make a rubbing of one of the bronze stars located in the Walk of Fame area of the museum. They are then directed to find the 'star' in the museum and record information about that person's life.

This tour provides an opportunity for some of the younger music fans to come out and learn about a museum with their favorite jolly ole music lover - Santa!
The children are greeted by Santa's helpers with a Christmas snack of cookies and juice while Santa reads to them from under a giant Christmas tree in the lobby. After a magical tour of discovery through the museum, the students are gathered together at the recording studio where a video tape is made of everyone singing "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer".

Black History Display
on exhibit at local school
Each year the Hall of Fame provides a traveling exhibit for area schools highlighting the accomplishments of the many African-American achievers from the state.
In addition to special tours on the influence of Black artists, the Hall of Fame also provides a special performance program featuring one of the state's music
achievers.
The program features Harvey Thompson of the famed Muscle Shoals Horns. Harvey and his Trio, with the vocal talents of Edsel Holden, trace the history of our Black musical traditions with songs by W.C. Handy, Nat "King" Cole and many others. This has become one of our most sucessful programs.

The Eighth Alabama Music Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Show was held Friday, January 29, 1999, at Von Braun Civic Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
A variety of contemporary achievement awards were presented, great music entertainment displayed by a variety of this state's great music achievers and topped off with four music achievers receiving our most prestigious award, induction in to the Alabama Music Hall of Fame
This prestigious event offers an evening of music and awards from some of the best known entertainers in the world as it celebrates Alabama's diverse musical heritage. The event is a positive force bringing together many groups of Alabamians: patrons of the classical arts, popular music fans, connoisseurs of blues and jazz, fans of country and gospel music, young and old. All coming together for an evening under the unifying effect of our musical culture.
A committee made up of people in the music industry from the state of Alabama determine the recipients of the Contemporary Achievement Awards and the Induction Awards. They are free to place a new name in the nomination process or to vote for one of the names already nominated from past years. Once a name has been placed in nomination, that name remains on the nomination list for subsequent years. There are three categories of induction: Performing Achievement Award, Non Performing Achievement Award, and the John Herbert Orr Pioneer Award.
