LEE CLAYTON
Instruments: Vocals, Guitar, Songwriter
Date of Birth: October 29, 1942
Place of Birth: Russellville, Alabama
Lee Clayton was one of the original "outlaw" country singer/songwriters. His first success as a songwriter came in 1972 when Waylon Jennings recorded "Ladies Love Outlaws." Clayton recorded his debut album in 1973; it was not successful but he continued to write songs that were in high demand by the likes of Jerry Jeff Walker, Hoyt Axton, and Willie Nelson. Bono of the Irish band U2 says, ‘There's only one country singer who has influenced me and he's an unknown feller called Lee Clayton'.
