"Mouse" Burroughs jazz drummer extraordinaire made his musical debut at age sixteen with trumpeter Roy Eldridge in a youth band. Shortly after his debut, he joined Walter Page's "Blue Devils", and in 1930 he moved on to become the drummer for Alphonse Trent's band.
He settled in Chicago and played for many renowned band leaders including Horace Henderson, Earl "Fatha" Hines, Milt Larkins, Benny Carter and Henry "Red" Allen. In mid 1946, he led his own band, then joined George Dixon's Quartet and was still a member of that group at the time he suffered a fatal heart attack on August 1, 1950.
