HANK BALLARD - Bessemer, Alabama
- In 1958, Ballard wrote "The Twist"
- By the middle of 1960, Ballard and the Midnighters had three simultaneous hits in the pop top 40: "Finger Poppin' Time", "Let's Go, Let's Go, Let's Go", and their original version of "The Twist."
- In 1990, Ballard was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
BAMA STATE COLLEGIANS - Montgomery, Alabama
- Jazz band for Alabama State College a predominantly black institution of higher education.
- Some of the alumni were Amos Gordon, J.L. Lowe, Erskine Hawkins, Haywood Henry, Dud Bascomb, J.B. Simms, Wilbur Hollins, Jimmy Mitchell, Richard Sanford, Joseph Sanford, among others.
- The band director of the Collegians during the 1930's was Mr. William Lawrence James.
- With a nucleus of Birmingham musicians, the band program grew and gained a reputation as one of, if not the best, college bands of the era attracting students from all over the country.
BILLY BANG- Mobile, Alabama
- Jazz violinist & composer
- Bang became known as an associate of Sam Rivers and Frank Lowe
- His skidding, diabolically transgressive playing was an essential component of the celebrated Loft scene.
- In 1977 co?founded the String Trio Of New York
BRANDON BARNES- Gadsden, Alabama
- Songwriter on many of Brian McKnight's hit songs
- The song "Anytime" on McKnight's album sold more than three million copies and was named the 1999 R&B single of the year.
- Received three Grammy awards as a songwriter

TOMMY BARNES - Winfield, Alabama
- In addition to Hank Williams, Jr., Tommy has had singles released by Don Cox, Tom Wopat, Little Texas, and Tim McGraw.
- "My Love" by Little Texas was a Gold single. The music video received CMT Country Video of the Year.
- Tim McGraw's "Indian Outlaw" went Platinum as a single.

- Co-composer of "Tuxedo Junction"

- He performed on the sound tracks for "It's A Mad, Mad World", "Midnight Cowboy", and "Legend of Nigger Charlie".
- In 1972, he performed with his son, Wilbur, Jr., on the David Frost television show.

- Achieved success as a composer of serious music, a concert singer, and a teacher.
- In 1949 portraits of three noted Alabama musicians were placed in the Music Room of the Department of Archives and History, Florence Golson Bateman was the first chosen to receive this honor.
LITTLE CHARLIE BATY- Birmingham, Alabama
- Founding member of Little Charlie and the Nightcats a West Coast blues band
- Jazz flavored jump blues with a touch of straight Chicago blues, Texas swing, R&B
BRIAN BAUGHN - Alabama
- Vice President/General Manager of Monk Family Music

- One of the most influential people in Gospel music

- Inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in 1995.
ED BELL- Fort Deposit, Alabama
- Bell stands as the most influential Alabama artist in pre-war blues recordings
- His "Mamlish Blues" and "Hambone Blues" were to define the style of the region and his contemporaries.
- He was billed as "The Weird Guitar Player".
JIM BELL- Troy, Alabama
- While stationed in France with the U.S. Air Force he met and played piano with the great vocalist, Dinah Washington
- He served over 23 years as a choir director and music teacher
- As a result of his contributions to the art of jazz, Bell was nominated and inducted into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame in 1995
RICK BELL - Birmingham, Alabama
- He has written for the Atlanta Singers, the Hotlanta Jazz Singers, and instrumental ensembles ranging from big bands to quartets.
- The Rick Bell Quintet was one of 12 semifinalists from more than 800 national and international entries in the 1991 Cognac Hennessey Jazz Search.
- Rick was a charter member of Rod Henley's Hotlanta Jazz Singers
BOYD BENNETT- Muscle Shoals, Alabama
- Co-wrote & recorded Top 5 rock 'n roll hit "Seventeen" in 1955 and "My Boy Flat Top"
- Seventeen rose to No. 5 on the Pop charts and provided King Records with one of its all-time best-sellers. A number of established Pop artists quickly covered the number ultimately pushing writer-sale royalties to some 3 million.
- The songs, "Seventeen" and "My Boy Flat Top" were the first songs ever recorded for the teenage market. The original manuscript of "Seventeen" is on display in the Library of Congress, in Washington, DC.
- Boyd's band also backed Moon Mullican on the 1956 session which produced his Rockabilly classic Seven Nights to Rock.
JO JO BENSON - Phenix City, Alabama
- In 1968 he formed a duo with 17-year-old, Peggy Scott
- "Lover's Holiday" was their first recording together and went gold. In less than two years they would add two more gold singles "Pickin' Wild Mountain Berries" and "Soulshake."
- In 1999 he recorded an album of spirited traditional soul that he called "Reminiscing in the Jam Zone." This collection of soul and rhythm and blues standards has been placed "among the finest soul albums of the year - indeed, of the decade" by Living Blues magazine.

- Concert promoter for the Oak Ridge Boys and Jerry Reed, Marty Robbins, Larry Gatlin, Don Williams, Hank Williams, Jr., Roy Clark, Mel Tillis, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Merle Haggard, Jimmy Buffet
- Lee Greenwood's general manager
ELEANOR BERGQUIST - Alabama
- Superb soprano voice
- Leading roles with the NY City opera , the San Francisco Opera, the Opera Company of Boston, the Miami Opera and many others.
- She made her debut with the Metropolitan Opera
- She frequently appeared at Carnegie Hall and was a guest soloist several times with the St. Louis Symphony
SCOTT BERSTEIN - Birmingham, Alabama
- Scott has performed with legendary jazz organist Richard "Groove" Holmes, Eddie Kendrick, The Temptations, Anita Baker, The Chi-Lites, Candi Staton, Steve Fisher of Van Morrison, and Wynton Marsalis.
- The jingle for Southeastern Meats, one of hundreds of commercial jingles written, played and produced by Scott over the years, has now run for almost 20 years, making it among the longest-running in Alabama commercial history.
- Scott is a professor of music at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
BIG DADDY WEAVE - Mobile, Alabama
- Debut CD "One And Only" was the highest charting debut for any new artist at Christian retail in 2002
- First single "In Christ" peaked at #2 on the Adult Contemporary Charts.
- Band was nominated for Dove Award as "Best New Band" for 2002.
ANNIE MATHILDE BILBRO- Tuskegee, Alabama
- In 1925 she was the most prolific of Alabama composers with over 600 published compositions.
- The Who's Who In America, 1938 & 39, lists Mathilde Bilbro, author, composer; teacher of piano at Gadsden, Alabama
- Miss Bilbro had a significant impact on music education in America throughout the 20th Century.
DAVID BLACK, JR - Montgomery, Alabama
- In 1966, Mr. Black was appointed to the position of Instrumental Music Consultant with the State Department of Education. He served in this position for 14 years.
- Mr. Black was inducted into the Phi Beta MU Alabama Bandmasters Hall of Fame in 1984.
BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA- Talladega, Alabama
- Traditional Black gospel quartet formed in 1937
- A foot-stomping jubilee style gospel music
- In 1988 they starred in the Obie Award winning Broadway musical, Gospel at Colonus.
- The group received a Grammy for Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album for 2001.
WALTER BLYTHE- Birmingham, Alabama
- He played the bass and tuba as a member Fess Whatley's Jazz Demons, the first jazz band in Birmingham
- In 1925, Blythe organized the first band at Council Elementary School where he taught Jo Jones, Nehemiah Stanfield, and Jimmy Chappel
GINGER BOATWRIGHT- Birmingham, Alabama
- One of the most influential women in bluegrass and acoustic country music
- Ginger's band Red, White & Blue(grass) won a Grammy nomination with its 1972 album, charted in 1973 and won "Most Promising Vocal Group" from Billboard magazine in 1974.
- She was nominated for another Grammy with the Doug Dillard Band's "Heartbreak Hotel" album
LUCILLE BOGAN- Birmingham, Alabama
- One of the toughest female blues singers
- Career spanned the 1920s - 1940s
- Best known to blues record collectors and historians for writing and singing "Shave 'Em Dry," one of the bawdiest blues songs ever recorded
- She made her first recordings for the Okeh label in New York. She also recorded for the Paramount and Brunswick labels in the late 1920s
- Also known as Bessie Jackson
LESTER BOONE- Tuskegee, Alabama
- Saxophonist who worked with Earl Hines Louis Armstrong, Eubie Blake, Jelly Roll Morton, Hy Clark and others in the New York Jazz scene during the 1930's.
ADAM BORDEN- Gadsden, Alabama
- Played with the Singing Ambassadors
- Began performing with Gold City in 1995.
- Also plays bass guitar with the group.

- Extensive studio work in NY in 1930s
- Worked with Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Bob Crosby and many others during 1930s & 40s
C. ED BOUTWELL- Birmingham, Alabama
- Established 1st recording studio in B'ham
- Wrote hundreds of commercial jingles winning 3 Clio Awards in 1975.
- Invention of "rolling punch" in recording made modern multi-track overdubbing less difficult.
FRAN BOYD- Montgomery, Alabama
- Was Executive Director of the Academy of Country Music.
- She was editor of the Awards Presentation Program and editor of the ACM monthly newsletter, Country Focus.
- In 1999, Fran was named as one of "Country's Greatest Women" by R&R Magazine.
SCOTT BOYER- Muscle Shoals, Alabama
- Founding member of the Capricorn Records group Cowboy
- As a session musician, Boyer has recorded with music legends such as Gregg Allman, Percy Sledge, Billy Joe Shaver, Kitty Wells, Bonnie Bramlett, Johnny Rivers, Arthur Conley and Alex Taylor.
- His writing credits include songs recorded by Eric Clapton ("Please Be With Me") , Randy Meisner, Alex Taylor ,Bonnie Bramlett and Gregg Allman.
KEN BOZEMAN- Mobile, Alabama
- He led the first country band to appear regularly on New Orleans Bourbon Street, working at Pete Fountain's Showplace
- He has worked with such stars as Johnny Carver, Billy "Crash" Craddock, Tanya Tucker, Little Jimmy Dickens, Del Reeves and others
- He is a six-time winner of the Instrumentalist of the Year Award in the Florida Country Music Association and five-time winner of the Associations Entertainer of the Year Award. Ken has been inducted into the Florida Country Music Hall of Fame as well as the Mobile County Country Music Hall of Fame
