RAZZY BAILEY
Instruments: Vocals
Date of Birth: February 14, 1939
Place of Birth: Lafeyette, Alabama
Singer-Songwriter Razzy Bailey was born in Lafayette, AL, and got his first taste of success as a member of the Future Farmers of America String Band.
After graduating from high school, Bailey began playing area clubs and developing his songwriting talents. In 1966, Bailey took his material to Bill Lowery, who arranged a recording session for "9,999,999 Tears." The song failed to hit the charts at that time.
In the early 70s, Dickey Lee recorded the song and it quickly climbed to the top of the country charts. Lee followed the success with another Bailey tune in 1971, "Peanut Butter," which also moved to the top of the charts.
As his songwriting career blossomed, Bailey signed with RCA Records and in 1978 began releasing hit singles on his own. The first hit "What Time Do You have To Be Back In Heaven," remained on the charts for over four months. In early 1979, he followed it with "Tonight She's Gonna Love Me (Like There Was No Tomorrow)," and then "If Love Had A Face" and "I Ain't Got No Business Doin' Business Today."
Continuing into the 80s, Bailey charted a total of nine number one singles including "Loving Up A Storm."
